Recognizing the value of hands-on environmental education, the Chesapeake Executive Council—which includes the governors of the six Chesapeake Bay states and the mayor of Washington, D.C.—signed a commitment in 2000 to provide a Meaningful Watershed Educational Experience, or MWEE, to every student in the watershed before graduation from high school. In 2010, the Chesapeake Bay Program launched Bay Backpack to support this goal. The content on this website does not necessarily reflect the views or positions of the federal government.
